The Proposed Supplies Cover Four Products

Tajikistan has requested 2.55 million tonnes of crude oil and petroleum products from Iran, according to the country’s Ministry of Transport. The preliminary volume comprises 2 million tonnes of crude oil, 150,000 tonnes of gasoline, 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel and 100,000 tonnes of aviation kerosene.

Transporting the entire volume would require approximately 51,000 rail wagons. Tajik Transport Minister Azim Ibrohim linked the search for new suppliers to the need to diversify the country’s fuel imports.

The global geopolitical situation has led to a decline in fuel imports into the Republic of Tajikistan,” Interfax quoted the minister as saying.

Dushanbe Seeks Simpler Fuel Logistics

Tajikistan has proposed that Iran organize dedicated trains of tank wagons. Dushanbe is also seeking a green corridor for fuel shipments moving through the Iranian railway network.

The talks covered preferential conditions for the Tajikistan logistics center at Iran’s Chabahar Port, road transport through Iranian territory and possible discounts on ground services and aviation fuel at Iranian airports.

Iran is also expanding transport links with other Central Asian countries. Kazakhstan previously agreed to build a logistics terminal at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port.

Final Volumes Will Depend on Logistics

The proposed 2.55 million tonnes have not yet been secured under a final supply contract. As of August 19, 2026, the parties were still discussing the technical, logistical and commercial terms.

According to Shana, the official news agency of Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum, Tehran and Dushanbe agreed to establish a working group. It will examine mechanisms for exporting Iranian petroleum products and prepare a framework for a long-term agreement covering fuel and crude oil for Tajik refineries.

Iranian officials stressed that the eventual trade volume would depend on available logistics capacity. The main factors will include the supply of tank wagons, railway throughput and the transport tariffs agreed by the parties.
