A copper and gold deposit discovered in Anhui Province could become an important resource base for eastern China. While its reserves still need to be assessed, experts already see significant potential for copper, gold and other mineral extraction.
According to China Daily, a major copper and gold deposit has been discovered in the Chating area of Xuancheng, Anhui Province. The main ore body is approximately 1.2 kilometers long and 1.1 kilometers wide, with its maximum thickness reaching 1,371 meters in one of the drill holes.
Preliminary estimates indicate that the potential copper reserves are comparable to those of several major deposits, each containing more than 500,000 metric tons of the metal. Gold reserves are also estimated to exceed those of more than a dozen major gold mines, each holding over 20 metric tons.
In addition to copper and gold, the site is expected to yield sulfur and silver. The deeper ore bodies have not yet been fully explored, meaning the estimated resource volume could increase.
According to Chinese experts, developing the deposit could strengthen the supply of copper and gold to eastern regions of the country while reducing transportation costs. Chinese authorities are already planning further geological exploration in Anhui and neighboring Jiangsu, hoping to identify additional promising deposits.
