The high-altitude variant of the C919 completed its maiden flight at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. According to the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), the aircraft remained airborne for 1 hour and 59 minutes, successfully completing all scheduled test objectives.

Based on the standard C919 platform, the new variant incorporates several design modifications, including a shortened fuselage and upgraded onboard systems. These enhancements are intended to ensure safe and reliable operations at airports located in high-altitude regions.

The C919 is China’s first narrow-body passenger aircraft developed in accordance with internationally recognized airworthiness standards and built using indigenous technologies. The standard version accommodates 158 to 192 passengers and has a maximum range of up to 5,555 kilometers.

The C919 program has been steadily progressing for more than a decade. The baseline aircraft completed its maiden flight in 2017, received its type certificate in 2022, and entered commercial service in May 2023.

The successful flight of the high-altitude variant expands the operational capabilities of the C919 family, paving the way for future services in mountainous and high-elevation regions.
