BelAZ, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of ultra-heavy mining trucks, has signed new cooperation agreements with Russian companies Power Machines, Ruselprom, and Ural Steel. The agreements were concluded ahead of the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia and are aimed at strengthening industrial cooperation, expanding import substitution, and implementing joint high-tech projects.
Electric Drives and Production Localization
One of the key initiatives involves collaboration between BelAZ and Power Machines, which will jointly prepare for the localization of electric machine manufacturing at the Belarusian plant. The partners also plan to launch a five-year program to develop traction electric drive systems for ultra-heavy mining trucks with payload capacities ranging from 290 to 360 tonnes.
Ruselprom will focus on designing traction drive systems for 290-tonne mining trucks. In addition, the company will cooperate with BelAZ on a landmark project to develop a power drive system for a passenger cable car.
Another agreement was signed with Ural Steel, which will supply a trial batch of high-strength heavy steel plates for testing. The material is intended for future integration into the production of dump truck platforms with payload capacities between 130 and 220 tonnes.
According to BelAZ CEO Sergey Lesin, the newly signed agreements formalize the continuation of long-standing industrial partnerships, as these companies have traditionally supplied components for the manufacturer’s production lines.
Russia Remains BelAZ’s Strategic Market
BelAZ management identified the expansion of its supplier network for the production of 130-tonne mining trucks equipped with AC electromechanical transmissions as one of the company’s strategic priorities.
Demand for this type of heavy-duty equipment continues to grow steadily, and attracting additional qualified suppliers will enable BelAZ to increase production volumes while maintaining high quality standards and competitive costs.
Sergey Lesin also emphasized that Russia remains BelAZ’s most important strategic partner, both as a supplier of components and as a key export market. According to the company, Russia is the second-largest mining truck market in the world, while Russian-made components account for at least 25% of every BelAZ vehicle.
More than 85% of BelAZ’s total production is delivered to Russia’s mining industry. As a result, the company describes its manufacturing model as a deeply integrated industrial partnership between Belarusian and Russian enterprises.
BelAZ will serve as one of the main industrial venues for the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, which will take place in Minsk and the Minsk Region. The company will host thematic sessions focused on industrial cooperation, regional economic development, and joint investment projects.
During the forum, BelAZ will also showcase its latest technological developments created together with its strategic partners. These include import-independent mining trucks assembled from Belarusian and Russian components, environmentally friendly vehicles powered by natural gas, hydrogen, battery-electric and hybrid technologies, as well as robotic and autonomous mining equipment demonstrating the company’s continued investment in digital technologies for the mining industry.
