China and the European Union formally launched the new consultation mechanism by holding its inaugural meeting in Brussels. The meeting was attended by China’s Minister of Commerce and the European Commissioner for Trade, Economic Security, Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency.
According to the joint statement, the new mechanism will serve as a permanent platform for addressing key issues in bilateral trade and economic cooperation. During the initial stage, the two sides identified four priority areas:
- balancing trade and investment;
- export controls;
- intellectual property rights protection;
- reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
During the meeting, representatives of China and the EU held comprehensive and constructive discussions on major economic and trade issues. They also agreed to establish a joint monitoring mechanism. The new platform is expected to strengthen bilateral dialogue, enhance transparency in economic cooperation, and enable both sides to respond more effectively to emerging challenges in trade and investment.
