Huawei and HP have entered into a multi-year global patent cross-licensing agreement. Under the deal, the US company will gain access to a number of Huawei patents related to Wi-Fi technology

The companies announced the agreement on August 26, according to Xinhua. Huawei views the deal as another confirmation of the importance of its own innovations in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

“By licensing our patents, we share our innovations with the industry, providing consumers around the world with access to cutting-edge technological solutions, particularly in the field of standardized technologies,” said Alan Fan, Huawei’s Chief Intellectual Property Officer.

The company has been actively expanding its patent licensing business. By the end of 2025, Huawei had signed more than 260 licensing agreements with major ICT equipment manufacturers in the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and other key markets. In 2025 alone, the company signed 34 new agreements.

The scale of the use of Huawei’s technologies is also growing significantly. According to the company, by the end of 2024, more than 1.2 billion consumer electronic devices had been licensed under Huawei’s Wi-Fi-related patents.

In 2024, Huawei’s revenue from patent licensing amounted to approximately $630 billion. As a result, the company’s patent portfolio is becoming not merely a tool for protecting its own innovations, but also a separate source of revenue in the global technology market.
