GEODIS Proves That Resilience in Logistics Matters More Than Rapid Growth

As global logistics moves through one of its most unpredictable periods in years, stable financial performance is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. Slower trade, weak industrial demand in Europe, geopolitical risks, and continued pressure on transportation markets are forcing logistics companies to focus less on rapid expansion and more on protecting profitability and operational efficiency.

Against this challenging backdrop, French logistics group GEODIS ended the first half of 2026 with results demonstrating that a diversified business model can withstand difficult market conditions.

The company reported €5.34 billion in revenue, while EBITDA reached €534 million. More importantly, its EBITDA margin remained stable at 10%, virtually unchanged from the previous year.

For a logistics industry in which many companies are facing shrinking margins, that stability is significant.

Controlling the Supply Chain Instead of Pursuing Growth at Any Cost

GEODIS is one of the world’s ten largest logistics operators, with activities spanning nearly every part of the supply chain, including trucking, contract logistics, warehousing, ocean freight, air freight, express delivery, and e-commerce fulfillment.

This broad operating structure allows the company to offset weakness in one business segment with stronger performance in another.

For example, its distribution and express delivery operations grew as shipment volumes increased in France and fuel-adjustment mechanisms helped offset rising transportation costs.

At the same time, road freight operations in France, the United States, and other parts of Europe remained under pressure because of weak demand. Poland was a notable exception, where industrial activity continued to support demand for less-than-truckload, or LTL, transportation.

Contract logistics remained stable on a like-for-like basis, supported by new customer agreements and strong commercial development during the first months of the year.

Preparing for the Next Decade, Not Just the Next Quarter

While many logistics companies remain focused primarily on near-term financial results, GEODIS is already implementing its strategic plan for 2026 through 2030.

One of the most important developments was the acquisition of French transportation company Transports Malherbe. The transaction strengthened GEODIS’ position in the French full-truckload and less-than-truckload markets while expanding its capabilities in major industries such as food production and mass-market retail.

GEODIS also consolidated several port logistics businesses under the GEODIS brand and opened its first multi-service port center in Le Havre.

The new integrated platform is designed to manage cargo from the moment it arrives at the port through final delivery, reducing the need for customers to coordinate with multiple logistics providers.

Sustainability Becomes Part of the Business Model

Only a few years ago, environmental initiatives were often treated mainly as a matter of corporate reputation.

Today, they are becoming a competitive advantage.

GEODIS received an “A” rating from CDP Climate Change, the organization’s highest level of recognition, highlighting the quality of the company’s climate strategy, transparency, and implementation of measurable environmental initiatives.

More than 200 electric vehicle charging stations have already been installed at GEODIS facilities in France. The company is also continuing to electrify its vehicle fleet and currently provides low-emission deliveries in the centers of 100 major French urban areas.

By 2027, GEODIS plans to expand low-emission delivery services to 200 of France’s largest cities.

Logistics Is Becoming More Digital and Specialized

GEODIS continues to invest not only in transportation assets but also in digital tools and specialized logistics services.

For the healthcare industry, the company opened two temperature-controlled cross-docking facilities in Chicago and Manchester, strengthening its ability to manage sensitive pharmaceutical shipments and other products requiring an uninterrupted cold chain.

GEODIS also launched a new express air freight service through MyGEODIS.com. The service allows companies to arrange rapid shipments of parcels and pallets to major European business centers.

It is aimed primarily at small and medium-sized businesses that require speed, flexibility, and simple access to international air transportation without complicated logistics procedures.

Defense Logistics Emerges as a Strategic Area

One of the more notable developments during the first half of the year was GEODIS’ participation in France’s ORION 26 military exercises.

The company took part in the Excalibur 26 exercise at the invitation of the French Armed Forces. The exercise was designed to test cooperation between civilian logistics providers and military authorities during a large-scale crisis.

Such capabilities are becoming increasingly important as governments place greater emphasis on resilient supply chains, emergency preparedness, and the ability to move critical cargo under disrupted operating conditions.

What the Results Mean for the Logistics Market

GEODIS’ first-half performance points to a broader shift taking place across the logistics industry.

The companies gaining the strongest position are no longer necessarily those offering the lowest transportation rates. They are the operators capable of giving customers visibility across the entire supply chain, digital cargo-management tools, flexibility during disruptions, reliable infrastructure, and measurable environmental performance.

That is why GEODIS’ strategy increasingly looks less like the strategy of a traditional freight carrier and more like the development of a global logistics ecosystem built to adapt to changes in trade, technology, regulation, and climate conditions.
