China’s Guangdong Province continues to strengthen its position as one of the country’s leading technology and manufacturing hubs. Driven by the rapid growth of the private sector, the region has become a key platform for deploying advanced solutions in autonomous transportation, robotics, and intelligent manufacturing.
One notable example is WeRide, a company founded in Guangzhou less than a decade ago. Today, its autonomous driving technologies are operating in more than 40 cities across 12 countries. This year, the company expanded its international footprint by launching robotaxi services in Singapore in partnership with Grab and commercial autonomous transport services in Dubai together with Uber.
At the core of WeRide’s success is its universal autonomous driving platform, which enables the use of shared software solutions for robotaxis, minibuses, trucks, and specialized vehicles. This approach reduces development costs while accelerating the rollout of new products and services.
The growth of high-tech companies is supported by the region’s powerful industrial base. According to local authorities, by the end of 2025, private enterprises accounted for more than 60% of Guangdong’s GDP and foreign trade, while also representing over 80% of the province’s nationally recognized high-tech companies. Rising production of electric vehicles, batteries, and intelligent equipment is creating a solid foundation for the continued expansion of Guangdong’s innovation-driven economy.
