The MISC Group has launched Yayasan Maritim, a foundation focused on developing maritime talent, protecting the marine environment and supporting coastal communities in Malaysia.

The MISC Group has launched Yayasan Maritim, which it describes as Malaysia’s first foundation specifically focused on the maritime industry. As reported by Splash247, the initiative aims to strengthen the shipping industry’s talent pool, improve the resilience of the marine environment, and support coastal communities.

The foundation was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur by Mohd Bakke Salleh, Chairman of the Board of Petronas. Yayasan Maritim will bring MISC’s existing maritime development initiatives together on a single platform.

The foundation will focus on three key areas: education, the environment and engagement with local communities. In education, it will support maritime training and professional development. Its environmental programs will cover marine conservation, climate resilience, research and innovation. Another area will focus on improving the living conditions and resilience of coastal communities.

The foundation has already begun its work through MISC’s cadet sponsorship program. In June, 190 cadets received funding to study programs in maritime studies, marine engineering and electrical engineering at the Malaysian Maritime Academy.
