China has launched its largest fully electric vessel for deep-sea cable installation, marking another milestone in the country’s high-tech shipbuilding industry. The vessel will play a key role in the construction of offshore wind power projects and underwater energy infrastructure.
Developed by the 708 Research Institute of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), the 16,000-ton vessel is capable of operating at depths of up to 3,000 meters. Equipped with a DP-2 dynamic positioning system, it is considered China’s most advanced cable-laying ship in terms of payload capacity, resistance to harsh weather and sea conditions, and deep-water operational capabilities.
Once commissioned, the vessel will be used to install high-voltage submarine cables for offshore wind farms and support the construction of intercontinental power transmission links. Experts believe the project will significantly strengthen China’s offshore renewable energy capabilities while reinforcing the country’s leading position in the global shipbuilding industry.
In the first half of the year, Chinese shipyards maintained their global leadership, with order books extending several years into the future, highlighting strong international demand for next-generation high-tech vessels.
