Foreign Ministers Discuss Energy Routes
Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev held a telephone conversation with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen. According to an official statement from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides reviewed the development of bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation.
The ministers paid particular attention to international shipping security and the stability of Kazakh energy supplies to Europe.
The importance of ensuring reliability of international transport and energy routes was stressed, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said
The two sides also discussed potential joint projects and deeper cooperation in priority economic sectors.
Oil Deliveries Exceeded 4 Million Tonnes
The foreign trade data published by Kazakhstan’s Bureau of National Statistics show that the country supplied more than 4 million tonnes of oil to the Netherlands between January and June 2026. Among buyers of Kazakh oil, only Italy received a larger volume.
The Netherlands accounted for 6.4% of Kazakhstan’s total export revenue, ranking fifth among the country’s main export markets after China, Italy, Russia and Türkiye.
Crude oil and crude petroleum products remained Kazakhstan’s largest export category, representing 46.5% of total export value. The country’s overall exports reached $40.33 billion in the first half of the year, an increase of 8.6% in nominal terms.
Supply Reliability Becomes a Key Priority
The talks indicate that European buyers are focused not only on the availability of crude but also on the resilience of the entire transport chain. Disruptions affecting pipelines and maritime routes can influence loading schedules, tanker availability and delivery costs.
Reliable access to European markets remains essential for Kazakhstan’s oil exports. With its major port and refining infrastructure, the Netherlands plays an important role in distributing energy resources across Northwestern Europe.
