Buildings and Facilities Damaged

Shahed-type drones attacked the Bolhrad and Izmail districts of Ukraine’s Odesa Region during the night of August 21, 2026. According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, one of the strikes hit infrastructure at the international Tabaky border checkpoint.

Buildings and other checkpoint structures were damaged. Fires that broke out at the site were contained by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.

Border Traffic Suspended

Passenger and vehicle processing at Tabaky has been temporarily suspended because of the damage.

“At present, the crossing of persons and vehicles through the Tabaky checkpoint is not taking place,” the border service said.

Ukrainian authorities informed the Moldovan side about the situation. Vehicles that had planned to use Tabaky are being redirected to other border crossings, although the official statement did not identify specific alternative routes.

Pressure May Shift to Nearby Crossings

Tabaky–Mirne is an international road checkpoint serving passenger and freight traffic between Ukraine and Moldova. Its temporary closure may increase pressure on neighboring crossings and cause longer waiting times.

Carriers and drivers are advised to verify the operational status of border checkpoints before departure and prepare for possible route changes. No timetable for repairing the damaged infrastructure has been announced.
