Uzbek Death Toll Rises to Eight
Eight citizens of Uzbekistan were killed in a drone attack on Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan on August 10, 2026. Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations announced the revised figure after previously confirming seven deaths.
According to the ministry, the victims were employed as construction workers by a building company. Several other Uzbek nationals were hospitalised with injuries of varying severity.
Uzbekistan sent a special working group to Nizhnekamsk to assist the injured and organise the repatriation of the victims’ bodies.
Tajik Citizen Confirmed Among the Victims
Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a 30-year-old citizen, identified by the initials R. B., was killed in the attack. The ministry told Asia-Plus that it was continuing to clarify whether other Tajik nationals had been injured.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said most of those killed were foreign nationals. According to the ministry’s preliminary information, the 13 fatalities included eight Uzbek citizens and one Tajik citizen. Around 20 foreign nationals were injured.
One Drone Struck a Hostel
The press service of Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov said both industrial and civilian sites in Nizhnekamsk were affected. One of the drones struck a hostel accommodating foreign workers.
Nine people were killed at the building, where investigators subsequently began examining the scene. The hostel death toll should not be confused with the overall number of victims: authorities reported 13 fatalities across Nizhnekamsk.
According to the latest figures released by the Tatarstan authorities, 78 people sought medical assistance. This total includes both hospitalised patients and people who received outpatient treatment. Regional authorities initially reported a lower number, which increased as more people requested medical care.
Russian Authorities Attribute the Attack to Ukraine
Russian authorities said Ukrainian drones carried out the attack on Nizhnekamsk. At the time of publication, Ukrainian authorities had not publicly confirmed responsibility for this specific strike.
Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the country’s terrorism legislation. Tatarstan declared August 10 a day of mourning, lowered state flags and cancelled entertainment events.
