Water purification and lighting equipment, genetic testing supplies and drones have been delivered to Kathmandu. A new group of Chinese DNA identification experts has also arrived in the country with the shipment.
According to China Daily, a second shipment of emergency humanitarian aid from China has arrived in Kathmandu. The assistance was sent following a major landslide on August 26, which was triggered by powerful mudflows caused by a glacier collapse.
This time, China sent approximately 5.8 metric tons of essential supplies. The shipment included water purification and lighting equipment, genetic testing supplies, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The necessary supplies were prepared and transported to Nepal within a short period thanks to coordination between several Chinese government agencies.
A new group of Chinese specialists also arrived in Kathmandu with the humanitarian shipment. Five DNA identification experts from Shenzhen were sent to the affected areas to assist Nepal with rescue operations and the identification of victims.
Beijing also emphasized that its assistance to Nepal goes beyond the delivery of supplies. Chinese specialists are directly involved in rescue operations in the affected areas.
“Providing emergency assistance to disaster-hit areas in Nepal and carrying out international cooperation in rescue operations is an important political decision made by China and reflects the friendship between China and Nepal,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun.
According to him, China and Nepal have maintained long-standing cooperation in meteorology, water resources management, as well as disaster prevention and mitigation.
Beijing said it would continue supporting Nepal in dealing with the aftermath of the disaster and deepen bilateral cooperation in disaster prevention and mitigation.
