A Chinese Truck Gets an Iranian Name
A new heavy tractor is entering the Iranian market under the name Borna 560S. The vehicle is being promoted by Borna Khodro Pars, but beneath the local branding is the Dongfeng Huashen HS7 that first attracted widespread attention during its Chinese debut in 2024.
Dongfeng introduced the HS7 as part of its new VASOL heavy-duty vehicle platform. Discussion of its specifications was quickly overshadowed by the appearance of the high-roof cab, which closely followed the design language of the Scania S-Series.
The similarities can be seen in the front fascia, lighting arrangement, side panels, air intakes and overall cab proportions. The dashboard architecture, door panels and positioning of several controls also resemble those used in the Swedish truck.
Borna Retains the Design Most Similar to Scania
Dongfeng revised the front of the Huashen HS7 in 2025. The original U-shaped grille arrangement was replaced by a more distinctive T-shaped design, making the updated Chinese truck less immediately comparable to the Scania.
The Iranian Borna 560S retains the earlier version of the cab, which has the strongest visual resemblance to the Swedish model. Its name reinforces the association: 560 refers to the engine output, while the letter S visually echoes Scania’s flagship series designation.
However, the truck is not presented as a licensed Scania product. Publicly available information does not indicate that Scania has authorized Dongfeng Huashen or Borna Khodro to use its cab design or body styling.
Cummins Engine and ZF TraXon Transmission
Despite its European appearance, the Borna 560S is technically a Chinese heavy truck.
It is powered by a 13.5-litre inline-six turbocharged Cummins diesel engine producing 560 hp and 2,650 Nm of torque. The engine is listed as meeting the Euro 5+EEV emissions level.
Power is transmitted through a 12-speed ZF TraXon automated gearbox. The transmission can be equipped with a hydraulic retarder, reducing the load on the service brakes during long downhill sections.
Other listed features include an S23H high-roof cab with two sleeping berths, rear air suspension and equipment intended for long-distance road transport.
Behind the Scania-like appearance is therefore a combination of a Dongfeng chassis, Cummins engine and ZF transmission.
Local Assembly Could Support After-Sales Service
The truck is being introduced by the recently established Borna Khodro Pars. The company has a production site in the Shiraz Special Economic Zone, where it plans to manufacture commercial vehicles for the Iranian market.
Local assembly could become one of the Borna 560S’s main advantages. Iranian operators would gain access to a new tractor combining familiar European styling, widely used Chinese components and domestic after-sales support.
Its market position will ultimately depend on more than appearance and engine output. Transport companies will also evaluate the purchase price, parts availability, assembly quality, fuel consumption and resale value after several years of operation.
Scania Is Already Manufacturing Trucks in China
The arrival of the Dongfeng Huashen HS7 is particularly notable because Scania itself is expanding its presence in China.
In October 2025, the Swedish manufacturer officially opened an industrial hub in Rugao, Jiangsu Province. It became Scania’s third major global production centre after its facilities in Europe and Latin America. The plant has an annual capacity of up to 50,000 vehicles and is intended to serve both the Chinese market and export customers.
Scania and Dongfeng are therefore competing directly in one of the world’s largest heavy truck markets.
As of July 2026, there is no public information confirming legal action by Scania against Dongfeng Huashen or Borna Khodro. Any attempt to challenge the design would depend on Scania’s registered intellectual property rights and the laws of the relevant jurisdiction.
The Borna 560S has already attracted attention through its styling. The Iranian market will now determine whether the truck can offer not only the appearance of a European flagship but also the reliability and operating efficiency required by professional carriers.
