China Advances Next-Generation Space Energy Technologies

China is accelerating the development of space-based energy technologies as it prepares for a new era of space exploration. The country is investing heavily in next-generation solar power solutions designed to supply electricity to satellite constellations, future lunar bases, and deep-space missions.

At the same time, Chinese engineers are working to reduce the weight of space equipment, improve energy conversion efficiency, and lower the overall cost of space power systems.

New Solar Technologies Enter Orbit

Among the most promising innovations are perovskite and flexible solar cells. Chinese researchers have already introduced high-performance photovoltaic modules with record-breaking energy conversion efficiency, while ultra-thin flexible solar panels have been delivered to the Chinese Space Station for in-orbit testing.

According to experts, these technologies could significantly reduce satellite weight while lowering launch costs, making future space missions more efficient and economically viable.

The Next Step: Space-Based Solar Power Stations

China is also continuing work on its Zhuri orbital solar power station project, designed to transmit energy wirelessly from space. Under the country’s long-term roadmap, China aims to deploy a megawatt-class demonstration space solar power station by 2030, followed by a gigawatt-class orbital power station in the decades ahead.

The development of these technologies is regarded as a critical foundation for supporting future lunar bases, large-scale satellite constellations, and the next generation of deep-space exploration.
