China and India have significant potential to expand cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, according to Mahendra Swarup, founder of VG Capital and former president of the Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association, in an interview with Global Times.
According to Swarup, the technological capabilities of the two countries are highly complementary. India has strong expertise in software development, digital infrastructure, and engineering talent, while China leads in AI applications, hardware manufacturing, large-scale deployment, and advanced industrial production.
The investor believes that joint initiatives could span healthcare, agriculture, education, clean energy, electric mobility, industrial automation, and logistics. In his view, combining the strengths of the two largest economies in the Global South could accelerate the development of affordable technological solutions not only for their domestic markets but also for countries across Asia, Africa, and other emerging regions.
Swarup also noted that the gradual easing of investment restrictions between China and India could create new business opportunities and encourage the development of joint innovation projects.
