Torrential rains have caused severe flooding in Xuchang, Henan Province. Within hours, floodwaters inundated streets and homes, while powerful currents posed a serious threat to residents across several areas.
One of the most dangerous rescue operations began after a sudden surge of floodwater swept a woman away. She managed to survive by clinging to a tree amid the raging current. Rescuers reached her using safety ropes and, despite the force of the water, pulled her safely to shore.
In another part of Xuchang, floodwaters inundated a home where a 96-year-old woman was trapped. Firefighters reached the elderly resident and carried her out of the flooded area on their backs.
The situation in Henan remains serious. The province has activated a Level II emergency response for flooding, while a red alert for heavy rainfall remains in effect. Some areas received more than 350 millimeters of rain within 24 hours.
Rescue teams continue to operate in the worst-affected areas, evacuating residents and providing assistance to people cut off from safe zones.
