According to data from the British maritime risk management firm Vanguard, a suspected U.S. military strike caused a fire in the vessel’s engine room and damaged its exhaust stack. This marks the third incident this week involving Indian sailors; just yesterday, a similar event involving the tanker Settebello resulted in the tragic loss of three lives.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the attack was carried out by U.S. forces, which have been enforcing a blockade of Iranian ports since April. According to ministry reports, U.S. operations have disabled eight vessels, diverted 134, and allowed only 42 humanitarian ships to pass since the blockade began.

The blockade, initiated by Washington on April 13, was a response to Iran’s restrictions on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz—a vital artery for global oil and gas trade.
