The Belgian company, which specializes in the transportation of general, project, and oversized cargo, is taking its first step into vessel ownership. Varamar has acquired four multipurpose ships with a deadweight capacity of 5,200 tonnes each. The vessels are expected to be integrated into the company’s existing network between late 2026 and early 2027.
Until now, Varamar has primarily built its business around chartering vessels from third-party owners. However, rising demand for cargo transportation and a shortage of modern multipurpose vessels have prompted the company to invest in its own tonnage.
The newly acquired ships will serve routes spanning Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. According to the company, the acquisition will increase operational flexibility and reduce dependence on the increasingly volatile charter market.
The investment is particularly significant for trade routes between Europe and Asia, where demand for the transportation of industrial equipment, project cargo, and heavy-lift shipments remains strong. Varamar believes that its own fleet will provide a solid foundation for further business expansion and strengthen its position in the global maritime transportation market.
