Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, who is on a state visit to China. The primary focus of the meeting was the further development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
According to Xi Jinping, China views Slovakia as an important partner in Central Europe and is committed to strengthening bilateral relations based on mutual respect, trust, and shared benefits. The Chinese leader also reaffirmed Beijing’s readiness to continue supporting cooperation on issues concerning the core interests of both sides.
New Areas of Cooperation
The discussions focused on expanding joint projects in high-tech industries. Priority areas include artificial intelligence, robotics, the digital economy, and clean energy. In addition, the two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, culture, tourism, youth and regional exchanges, as well as measures to facilitate travel between the two countries.
President Pellegrini reaffirmed Slovakia’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with China and stated that the country welcomes investment from Chinese companies. According to him, cooperation in innovative technologies and new energy sectors has the potential to become one of the main drivers of bilateral relations.
China Seeks Support for Dialogue with the EU
During the talks, Xi Jinping also addressed China’s relations with the European Union, emphasizing that Beijing regards the EU as an important partner and supports the stable development of bilateral ties. He expressed hope that Slovakia would play an active and constructive role in strengthening dialogue between China and the European Union.
For his part, Peter Pellegrini said Slovakia is ready to promote cooperation between the EU and China, support a multilateral approach to international affairs, and contribute to the development of global principles for artificial intelligence governance.
The talks were held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. An official welcoming ceremony took place before the meeting, followed by a state banquet hosted by the Chinese side in honor of the Slovak president.
