International energy trader BGN continues to strengthen its position in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipping market. The company has placed a new order for the construction of two very large gas carriers (VLGCs) at South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard.
Under the contract, the shipbuilder will construct two dual-fuel vessels, each with a cargo capacity of 93,000 cubic meters. Delivery of the new gas carriers is scheduled for 2029. The agreement comes only weeks after BGN ordered four additional VLGCs from the same shipyard, highlighting the company’s commitment to rapidly expanding its fleet.
Once all vessels are delivered, BGN’s owned LPG carrier fleet will grow to 19 ships. In total, the company has already ordered six new VLGCs from HD Hyundai during 2026.
The new vessels will be capable of operating on both conventional fuels and lower-emission alternatives. In addition to transporting LPG, they will also be designed to carry ammonia, which is widely viewed as one of the most promising fuels of the future.
According to the company, the fleet expansion is part of its long-term strategy to strengthen its position in transition fuels, including LPG and LNG. BGN currently operates a fleet of around 40 owned and chartered vessels across multiple shipping segments.
