According to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China, the country’s total imports and exports reached nearly 21 trillion yuan during the January–May period, up 15.3% compared to the same period last year.
In May alone, China’s foreign trade volume totaled 4.45 trillion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 16.9%. As a result, the monthly trade value has remained above the 4 trillion yuan mark for three consecutive months, highlighting the strong momentum of the country’s external trade sector.
Exports rose by 13.8% in May compared to the same month a year earlier, while imports recorded an even stronger increase of 21.5%. The growth in trade volumes reflects sustained global demand for Chinese-made goods, as well as a recovery in domestic demand for imported products.
The continued expansion of China’s foreign trade remains an important driver for global supply chains, international logistics, and maritime transportation.
