Greek shipowner Venergy Maritime is further strengthening its presence in the crude oil transportation sector. The company has placed an order for the construction of two new Suezmax tankers at China’s Hengli Shipbuilding and has also secured options for two additional vessels of the same type.
Each tanker will have a deadweight capacity of approximately 158,000 tons. Delivery of the confirmed vessels is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2028, while the optional ships, if exercised, could be delivered in 2029. The contract value has not been officially disclosed, although market estimates place the price of similar vessels at around $90 million per ship.
The latest order is part of Venergy Maritime’s broader fleet expansion strategy. In less than 12 months, the company has built up a substantial orderbook of tankers and container vessels, distributing construction contracts among several leading Asian shipyards.
According to industry analysts, the group’s total investment in newbuild vessels has already exceeded $1.5 billion and could approach $2 billion when existing options are taken into account. Venergy’s rapid growth is also reinforcing the position of Hengli Shipbuilding, which is increasingly emerging as one of the leading players in the global shipbuilding industry.
