The new corridors will connect Frankfurt and Atlanta, Chicago and Tokyo Narita, Brussels and São Paulo, and Chicago and São Paulo. With the expansion, Kuehne+Nagel’s Cool Corridor network now includes 12 dedicated air freight lanes, linking major pharmaceutical and life sciences hubs across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.
One of the most significant additions is the Frankfurt–Atlanta route, which will operate with dedicated weekly capacity aboard Kuehne+Nagel’s own Boeing 747-8 “Inspire” freighter. The company says the route will provide greater control over one of the world’s busiest pharmaceutical trade lanes.
A Different Approach to Cold Chain Logistics
Unlike traditional pharmaceutical transportation, which often depends on expensive active temperature-controlled containers with built-in refrigeration systems, Kuehne+Nagel’s Cool Corridor concept focuses on controlling the entire transportation process itself.
The company has developed dedicated GDP-compliant transportation corridors in cooperation with airlines and ground handling partners. Every stage of the shipment—from warehouse handling and aircraft loading to transfer operations—is performed under standardized procedures designed to minimize Time Out of Range (ToR), the period during which sensitive cargo may be exposed to temperatures outside its approved limits.
The approach is intended for vaccines, biologics, peptides, cell therapies, and other high-value pharmaceutical products that require strict temperature stability throughout transit.
Lower Costs and Lower Emissions
By increasing confidence in transportation conditions, the Cool Corridor network allows pharmaceutical manufacturers to rely more heavily on lighter passive packaging rather than bulky active cooling containers.
