Women across China are playing an increasingly important role in advancing artificial intelligence, gradually moving from technology users to active contributors shaping the country’s digital economy and innovation landscape.
According to Nina Huang, Senior Vice President of DataCanvas, women now account for more than half of all entrepreneurs in China’s internet sector. In fast-growing industries such as e-commerce, digital trade, and livestream commerce, they represent approximately one-third of the workforce. In 2024 alone, more than 14,000 women obtained professional AI certifications, representing 40% of all certified specialists in the country.
DataCanvas believes that modern technologies are creating entirely new opportunities for entrepreneurship and small business development. At the same time, experts emphasize the importance of increasing women’s participation in AI development, technology management, and industry policymaking to ensure more inclusive and sustainable growth of the digital economy.
