Truck Parking Area on Slovakia’s D1 Motorway to Close Temporarily

Truck drivers operating international freight services through northern Slovakia should be aware of temporary restrictions at one of the most frequently used rest areas along the D1 motorway.

The National Motorway Company of Slovakia has announced the temporary closure of the Turčianska Štiavnička rest area, located on the D1 motorway in the direction of Ružomberok. The closure will be in effect on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, approximately from 08:00 to 12:00.

The restriction is necessary to allow scheduled road maintenance and repair works. According to the motorway operator, the planned activities cannot be carried out safely while the parking area is fully occupied by vehicles, making temporary access restrictions necessary.

The closure is particularly important for truck drivers who need to comply with European driving and rest-time regulations. Turčianska Štiavnička is commonly used by freight operators as a convenient location for mandatory breaks while traveling through central and northern Slovakia.

Transport companies are advised to adjust schedules in advance and prepare for increased demand at nearby parking facilities. Slovak road authorities recommend using alternative rest areas located beyond Ružomberok, including truck parking facilities near Ivachnová.

Such restrictions are especially significant during the summer season, when freight traffic volumes on major European transport corridors typically increase. The shortage of secure and available truck parking spaces remains one of the most pressing challenges facing the European road transport industry, making even short-term closures of major rest areas important for route planning.

Carriers operating through Slovakia are encouraged to monitor roadwork updates and parking availability in advance to avoid potential delays and ensure compliance with mandatory driver rest requirements.
