U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend a meeting with executives from the country’s leading mining companies. The event is part of Washington’s broader strategy to strengthen supplies of critical minerals, which are essential for the production of batteries, semiconductors, defense equipment, and other high-tech products.

The administration’s primary objective is to reduce dependence on China, which dominates both the mining and, in particular, the processing of many strategic raw materials. To achieve this, the United States plans to accelerate the development of new mining projects, expand domestic processing capacity, and deepen cooperation with allied nations.

However, the challenge extends beyond securing mineral resources. A shortage of qualified workers remains one of the biggest obstacles to expanding the industry. As a result, the U.S. Department of Energy is also preparing a separate event involving leading mining schools to encourage more engineers, geologists, technicians, and mining specialists to enter the profession.

Experts say that competition for critical minerals has become one of the defining elements of the global economic and technological race. Countries are increasingly seeking to secure reliable supply chains for strategic raw materials that underpin the future of clean energy, defense industries, and advanced technologies.
