Bangladesh is seeing a significant rise in dengue cases. More than 16,000 people have been hospitalized across the country in August alone, nearly twice the figure recorded in July. Since the beginning of the year, the disease has been diagnosed in more than 31,000 people, 88 of whom have died.
According to Xinhua, another 550 dengue cases were reported in the country on August 26. In July, 9,000 patients required hospitalization.
The rise in infections coincides with the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September in Bangladesh. During this period, conditions become favorable for the breeding of mosquitoes that transmit the virus, significantly increasing the risk of dengue transmission.
The current trend differs considerably from last year. In 2025, Bangladesh recorded 102,000 dengue cases and 413 deaths over the entire year. However, August 2026 is not yet over, while the number of hospitalizations has already surpassed 16,000.
The most severe year for the country was 2023, when more than 1,700 people died from dengue, marking the highest annual death toll on record.
Medical authorities continue to monitor the situation amid the active spread of the infection across the country.
