Hutchison Ports Sohar container terminal continues to implement its strategy of sustainable development and digital transformation. The company has signed an agreement with Chinese manufacturer ZPMC for the supply of 12 automated electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes (AeRTGCs). The new equipment will be used for container handling and stacking operations. Delivery is currently scheduled for the second half of 2027.
The new cranes will significantly reduce the environmental impact of port operations by replacing traditional diesel-powered solutions with electric technologies. In addition, the introduction of automated equipment will improve terminal efficiency, accelerate cargo handling processes, and strengthen Hutchison Ports Sohar’s position as one of the most technologically advanced ports in the region.
The project is part of a long-term infrastructure modernization program and the development of the smart port concept. Hutchison Ports Sohar is a joint venture involving several companies and a number of Omani investors. The terminal is capable of accommodating modern container vessels and plays a significant role in the logistics network of Oman and the wider Middle East region.
