South Korean companies HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Malcon have signed a cooperation agreement to develop specialized service operation vessels for offshore wind farms. The project involves the creation of a Korean-designed eco-friendly vessel tailored to the operating conditions of the country’s domestic offshore wind energy sector.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering will play a leading role in the development process. The company will be responsible for designing environmentally friendly propulsion systems, energy storage solutions, and advanced electrification and hybrid power technologies.
In addition to vessel development, the partners plan to expand cooperation with South Korean small and medium-sized shipyards and support the localization of equipment production for the offshore wind industry. Malcon will be responsible for the design, construction, and commercialization of the new vessels.
Eco-friendly service vessels are considered a critical part of the infrastructure needed to support the growth of offshore wind energy. The project is expected to strengthen South Korea’s position in the global markets for green technologies and offshore renewable energy.
