According to shipbrokers, BW LNG has signed a contract to build a 174,000-cubic-meter FSRU at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The vessel is estimated to cost between $320 million and $330 million, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2029.
The new FSRU will serve the JIIPE LNG terminal project in the Gresik Special Economic Zone in East Java, Indonesia. The project is being developed by BW Group and Indonesian company PT AKR Corporindo through their joint venture, PT Andalanesa Energi Primer. Each partner will hold a 49% stake in the venture, while the remaining 2% will be owned by PT Arthakencana Rayatama, AKR’s parent company.
Once commissioned, the FSRU is expected to strengthen the region’s LNG infrastructure and support the start of commercial operations at the terminal in the third quarter of 2029.
BW LNG continues to expand its fleet aggressively. In addition to operating more than 30 LNG carriers and floating storage and regasification units, the company has placed several newbuilding orders this year. Earlier this year, it signed a contract with HD Hyundai Samho for the construction of two 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carriers, with deliveries scheduled for the second half of 2029. Those vessels followed an earlier order for two similar LNG carriers placed at the same shipyard in November last year.
