The United Kingdom and Japan have signed a major cooperation agreement in the offshore wind energy sector, providing for investments of up to £9 billion ($12.1 billion). The entire amount is planned to be allocated to the development of floating offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 5.9 GW, which will be located off the coast of Scotland and in the Celtic Sea.
As part of the partnership, the large-scale Ossian, Green Volt, and Erebus projects are planned for implementation. Together, they will be capable of supplying clean electricity to more than 8 million households. The agreement is also expected to strengthen the United Kingdom’s energy security, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and stimulate the creation of new jobs.
Japanese companies, including Marubeni Corp, Tokyo Electric Power, Kansai Electric Power, and others, play a particularly important role in these projects. This further highlights the growing cooperation between the two countries in the field of renewable energy and the development of floating offshore wind technologies. The agreement could become one of the largest international partnerships in the European offshore wind sector in recent years.
