A major natural disaster struck Chongqing Municipality in southwestern China. In Pengshui County, a massive landslide triggered by the collapse of a mountainside engulfed part of a village, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation. According to local authorities, 18 people were pulled from the disaster zone, but eight of them later died from their injuries. Another 34 people remain missing as rescuers continue working around the clock in hopes of finding survivors.
Hundreds of emergency personnel and specialized rescue equipment have been deployed to the affected area. Rescue efforts are being complicated by unstable ground conditions and the ongoing risk of additional landslides. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collapse while assessing the full extent of the damage.
The tragedy in Chongqing marks yet another major challenge for China, which has faced a series of destructive natural disasters in recent months. As rescue teams continue clearing debris, the fate of dozens of missing people remains unknown, while the nation closely follows the ongoing search operation.
