Malaysian container shipping company MTT Shipping is moving forward with its strategy to expand and modernize its fleet. The company has placed an order for the construction of two new container vessels, each with a capacity of 3,300 TEU.
The vessels will be built for MTT Shipping’s subsidiaries, MTT Shipping Pasir Gudang and MTT Shipping Miri. Delivery is scheduled between March and June 2029.
The latest order forms part of an investment program unveiled following the listing of MTT Shipping and Logistics Berhad on the stock market in early 2026. Under the program, the company plans to acquire at least eight container vessels. In addition to the two 3,300-TEU ships, the fleet expansion plan includes four vessels with capacities of up to 1,462 TEU and two container ships of 1,092 TEU.
According to the company, the larger feeder vessels will strengthen regional transport capacity, while the smaller ships will replace some of the oldest units in the fleet. MTT currently operates a fleet of 26 container vessels with a combined capacity of approximately 29,000 TEU. The company is also considering further fleet expansion should favorable market opportunities arise.
