Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sjoerd Sjoerdsma has begun a three-day visit to China against the backdrop of rising global trade tensions and the ongoing technological rivalry between China and the United States. The agenda focuses on advanced technologies, investment, supply chain resilience, and the further development of bilateral economic cooperation.

The Dutch delegation includes representatives from 17 companies operating in the high-tech, logistics, and agricultural sectors. During the visit, meetings are scheduled with China’s Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao, executives of Chinese enterprises, and business representatives in Beijing and Shanghai.

One of the key topics is cooperation in the semiconductor industry. The Netherlands plays a crucial role in the global semiconductor supply chain. At the same time, the country is seeking to strike a balance between export restrictions introduced under pressure from the United States and maintaining strong economic ties with China.

The discussions will also cover the impact of new trade barriers, opportunities for mutual investment, and the development of joint projects in high-tech industries. For the Netherlands, China remains one of its most important trading partners outside Europe. As a result, Dutch authorities are working to preserve constructive dialogue despite geopolitical differences and growing competition in global markets.
