China Railway No. 4 Engineering Group (CREC4) has completed a major phase in the development of the Metrorrey light rail transit system in Monterrey, Mexico. A successful test run was carried out on an 11-kilometer section of the line, confirming the infrastructure’s readiness for future operations.
The trials took place on May 31 in the presence of local government officials. The Governor of Nuevo León praised the quality of construction and the efficiency of project implementation, emphasizing its importance for the development of the city’s transportation network.
As part of the preparation process, engineers completed a series of electrification works, including the installation of the overhead contact system, cable infrastructure, and power supply connections for traction substations at several stations. One of the key milestones was a high-temperature operational test, a critical step before the line enters commercial service.
According to CREC4 representatives, the new section will increase the capacity of Monterrey’s public transportation system and help accommodate the higher passenger demand expected during the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches. In addition, the project is expected to improve regional connectivity while supporting economic, commercial, and tourism development along the route.
