Ukraine’s Ministry for Communities and Territories Development has announced the completion of modernization works at four international border crossing points that connect the country with the Republic of Moldova. The upgrades are part of broader efforts to strengthen border infrastructure and support international transport corridors linking Ukraine with European markets.

The projects covered the Starokozache–Tudora, Dolynske–Cișmichioi, Lisne–Seița, and Maloiaroslavets 1–Ceadîr-Lunga border crossings, all of which play a significant role in passenger and freight transport between Ukraine and Moldova.

New Infrastructure for Freight Operators and Drivers

At the Starokozache–Tudora and Dolynske–Cișmichioi checkpoints, comprehensive infrastructure upgrades were completed. The works included the installation of new modular facilities, modernization of engineering systems, upgraded traffic management equipment and fencing, backup power supplies, and overall site improvements.

Meanwhile, the second phase of modernization was completed at the Lisne–Seița and Maloiaroslavets 1–Ceadîr-Lunga border crossings. These projects build on infrastructure improvements that began in 2024 with the support of international partners. The upgraded facilities now feature new canopies, modern staff work and rest areas, external lighting systems, backup electricity supplies, emergency vehicle stopping equipment, and improved pedestrian infrastructure.

A separate component of the project involved the construction of a new parking and rest area along the M-15 Odesa–Reni highway near the Reni–Giurgiulești border crossing.

The 1.7-hectare facility provides parking space for 46 trucks and 13 passenger vehicles, including two dedicated spaces for people with reduced mobility. The site includes modern public restrooms, covered rest areas, lighting systems, water supply and wastewater infrastructure.

The project was implemented under the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program as part of the Solidarity Lanes initiative designed to improve transport connectivity between Ukraine and the European Union.

Industry experts note that the modernization of border infrastructure is particularly important for international freight operators, as it can help increase border-crossing capacity, reduce waiting times, and improve working conditions for drivers. The development also strengthens logistics corridors in southern Ukraine and enhances the resilience of the country’s transport network amid growing international trade flows.
